The new Bettembourg-Dudelange intermodal rail/road terminals will enable the transhipment of 300,000 containers and 300,000 semi-trailers per year.

The purpose of these new Bettembourg-Dudelange intermodal rail/road terminals is to transfer whole semi-trailers or containers between rail and roads. This is why this transfer point is located near the main infrastructure for road and rail.

In terms of the rail infrastructure, the new terminals are directly adjacent to the Bettembourg marshalling yard. The close proximity gives access to tracks for train parking, line-up, and shunting when they arrive to, or leave, the new rail motorway. A single spur accessible from the south leads to six tracks, two for the Modalohr system and four for the terminal for all transport combined.

In terms of road infrastructure, the new terminals are located at the crossing of two international motorways, the A3 going North to South from Belgium to France, and the A13 going East to West from the Luxembourgish mining basin to the valley of the river Saar in Germany.
