Cumulative number of ILU transported since 2003 to date: 1,023,447 ILU (≈ 23 million tonnes transported with VIIA)
CO2 reduced and emitted:
CO2 emissions from rail service | CO2 emissions avoided from rail service | |
2018 | 4 846 T CO2 | 80 000 T CO2 |
2019 | 3 832 T CO2 | 87 500 T CO2 |
Cumulative emissions avoided thanks to VIIA since 2003: 713,000 T CO2 ≈, the equivalent of the carbon footprint of 62,500 French people for one year.
- 95% of CO2 emissions avoided compared to the same distances by road
- 30 T CO2 avoided by using the train compared to the same distances by roads (≈ 1.5 T CO2 emitted/train)
Breakdown of CO2 emissions:
- 80% of CO2 emissions come from rail hauling (subcontracted), 80% from rail hauling in France and 20% from rail hauling in Europe
- 20% of CO2 emissions come from operations at multimodal platforms and VIIA headquarters (energy, travel, waste)
